How Our Training Helps Cedar Park/Leander Athletes Avoid Injury

One of the worst things for an athlete is a sidelining injury.
Beyond the physical effects an injury has on an athlete, the mental effects can be even worse.
When an athlete has to sit out from practice & games, they're missing out on valuable time, especially if they're at the high school level.
One of the biggest reasons athletes need to be weight training year-round is building up injury resistance.
Here's how our training helps Cedar Park & Leander athletes stay injury-free and in the game:
Forget What You Believe About Athletes Lifting Heavy
These days, it seems like the prevailing belief for most parents & coaches is that athletes shouldn't be lifting heavy weights.
This could be from the fear of an athlete getting too big & too slow (they won't), getting injured in the gym, etc.
But, when done correctly and supervised by an expert coach, strength training is the ultimate injury preventer.
Lifting heavy resistance properly, through full ranges of motion, is not only great for building the strength & power capabilities of an athlete's muscles...
But it's also excellent for strengthening joints, ligaments, tendons & bones.
Our muscles are responsible for protecting our joints, where most of an athlete's injuries are occurring (think shoulder pain, ankle pain, etc.).
This means strength training with heavy resistance is great for preparing the body for joint stress and forming a protection around those areas.
So in a nutshell, strong muscles = strong joints, ligaments, tendons & bones.
We Only Coach a Limited Number of Athletes at a Time
These days, athletes tend to lift at school with their teams fairly often.
This embracing of strength training from other sports other than football is really great to see.
However, the problem lies in the size of the team being trained, the exercise selection, and the number of coaches supervising.
The majority of injuries from strength training that athletes experience are from inexperience from coaches & lack of supervision.
When you have a big weight room of 25 athletes, and one coach supervising, this is a recipe for disaster.
At Barbell Coalition, we only train around 6 athletes at a time, each having their own program designed specifically for them, their sport & their goals.
This allows us to really supervise and ensure exercise safety and effectiveness.
If You're the Parent of a Cedar Park or Leander Athlete, Our Training Will Make Your Child a Better Athlete
Strength training bridges the gap between an average athlete and an elite athlete, so it's something you should be taking seriously for your child.
We suggest athletes start lifting with us at 12-13 years old.
If your child is around that age, this is prime time to start them in a specialized strength & conditioning program.
